Cykeltips runt sjön Dunkern

The bike ride goes in the most beautiful terrain starting from Dunkers Kyrka.

The church dates from the 13th century and was then built in a cruciform shape. In 1809 the church burned and the roof and tower collapsed. In the early 19th century, the church was rebuilt, which today is completely characterized by the rebuilding after the fire

Lake Dunkern is a clear water lake whose deepest hole is 40 meters deep. The bottom of this hole is home to ice sea relics, small crustaceans that like clean water. Dunkern is also home to a rich bird life, including the common loon and osprey.

Kammarsten stands there proudly and stately on the left side, an enormous migratory block that is full of cracks and passages large enough to crawl through. It is located right next to the road, not far from stage 19 of the Sörmland Trail, near Ånhammar farm. The stone was brought here by the ice sheet about 20,000 years ago. According to legend, however, it happened in a completely different way. It is said that there was a giant who, when he saw that a church had been built in Gryt, became so angry that he took a stone to throw at the church. Fortunately, he missed the target and since that day the stone has been in this place.

The tour takes you through a vast landscape of open pastures and cultivated fields. First exit towards Stjärnhov, make a detour in the opposite direction, towards Idéfarmen with the sculpture park ART-farm. Take the same small stretch back and continue towards Stjärnhov and the area's large coniferous forests. Turn left, road sign Ånhammar, along the way you cycle through meadows and oak groves with Lake Dunkern on your left.

The access road to the manor Ånhammar's manor house passes the older farm with stables and farm buildings, where the estate has a farm museum built by Anders von Stockenström together with his wife Elisabeth in the 1950s. It houses historical collections of around 2,000 objects, including carriages and agricultural implements.

The tour then takes you past the beautiful Ekensholm Castle. Corps de logi was built in 1827 of stone in two floors in Italian neoclassicism when Knut Kurck was the owner. In summer, Sörmland's summer concerts are held here every year. Horses can be seen in the castle's oak slopes.

Past farms and crofts, you now return to Dunkers Church and Dunkers School.
