GAMLA BYN in Avesta is the remains of the mill community originating from the 17th century. In 1803, a disaster occurred when the copper works, the church roof and 102 of the 125 farms in the village burned down. In 1883, Axel Ax:son Johnson, the creator of the Johnson Group, participated in the formation of Avesta Jernverk. Thanks to his interest and commitment, the mill environment was saved and Gamla byn was restored to a now sought-after residential area. VERKET is the old ironworks that has been transformed into an award-winning immersive museum with a mix of history, art and technology. The old ironworks also houses Avesta Art, an art gallery with world-class art. A large Christmas market is also held annually. Read more at: verket.se

The "MAGIC EYE" slide is a popular feature of the Metropoolen bathhouse. Sport is one of Avesta municipality's profile areas, and various initiatives have strengthened its position as a sports municipality. The sports park, located a stone's throw from the bathhouse, is another example of this. The public can come here to play sports and play. All activities are free and include kick-bike and skateboarding on two different skateboard ramps, tennis, parkour, bunny hopping, disc golf, dancing and games. VISENTEN is a symbol of Avesta municipality. The stainless steel sculpture on Markustorget was created by artist Lars Andersson in 1976. It depicts the visent bull Pudam, which was imported from Poland to Avesta Visentpark in 1969, as part of the rescue of the endangered
