Franciskusleden Arboga

Welcome to the Franciskus trail. The trail starts at the Holy Trinity Church in central Arboga, and then goes out towards the outskirts of the city. the trail is a total of ten kilometers long, but it is perfectly possible to walk it in two stages with five kilometers in each stage.

There are 11 places with information signs along the trail. There you can stop and get a few words along the way. Get a mission, a prayer or a thought to carry with you.

The Trinity Church was originally built by Franciscan monks, who came wandering through Sweden. The Gray Brothers, as they were also called, settled in cities that they thought could expand and where there were plenty of people. They were doctors, helped the old and sick, and also taught the children to read. that they came to Arboga is recorded in Assisi in Italy. according to an older, often cited opinion, the gray brothers would have founded their convent in arboga in 1285.

The church was completed in the beginning of the 14th century. since then, the church has been built over and over again over the centuries. during the reformation, the monastic brothers were driven away from arboga, and the church belonged to the city.
