Omschrijving

This
beautiful freshwater archipelago at Insjön in the middle of Möckeln is full of
birdlife where you have a chance to see osprey, black-throated loon, common
tern and cormorant.

In early
spring, you can hear sparrows singing, woodpeckers tapping tree trunks and
experience the close proximity of seabirds. The water at Insjön is a Natura
2000 area and is not part of Möckeln’s fisheries management area. So you
are not allowed to fish here. At its deepest, it is 5.6 meters – but around the
islands it is considerably shallower. Just south of the bridge between Lång and
Höö the threatened pillwort grows along the shoreline. It is easiest to see
this when the water level is low.

Please bear
in mind that it is forbidden to go ashore on Insjön’s islands during the birds’
breeding season between 1 April and 1 August.

Möckeln is
the third largest lake on the southern Smäland lake plateau after Bolmen and
Åsnen. Apart from common lake fish such as perch, pike and pike-perch, there
are also roach, birch, rudd, ruffe, bleak, vendace, tench and common bream. Möckeln
is also one of four lakes in the country where the mythical moth can be found.

Möckeln’s mean water line can vary by two meters, between
137–135 meters above sea level, which is clearly visible on islands and along
shorelines. The fact that the water level varies is an important factor for a
number of different species along the shores, such as bog-hair grass, pillwort
and earth tongue.
