The area was the focal point of the conscripts' entertainment events. Market jesters were allowed to set up their carousels and circus companies their tents here. But first you had to have the regimental commander's permission, and you usually got it for the big folk festivals on the Plain.

Ascension Day 1881

Things got lively down in Nöjena's valley, where people hooted, shouted and took a swig from the bottle. The carousel owner was responsible for the loudest shouts. There were many rides and the local girls were often invited for a ride. In the whirls of the merry-go-round, the ladies' skirts rode in the air to the great delight of the spectators: sometimes you could see the ladies' beautiful legs almost up to their knees... The commander thought that things were getting a bit too lively and ordered the owner to take the merry-go-round down. With the help of conscripts and civilians, it was moved to the other side of the Silver River, where operations continued.

More recently, a dance floor was built here on the initiative of the regimental commander. To his great disappointment, it was not used as frequently as he had expected.
