Omschrijving

Learn about the history of the mill, forestry research and how peasants without horses got gno. Exhibitions, guided tours and the proximity to the walking trail with eighty different species of trees make the mill well worth a visit.

The scenic mill was built in 1865 on the foundations of a bar iron forge built as early as 1656. Today, it serves as a well-stocked village museum that is open every day during the summer.

Near the mill is the Kratte Masugn arboretum, a forest research area with planted trees. Take a walk and look at eighty tree species, all labeled with names. You'll find rarities like Serbian spruce, one of Europe's rarest species, and Japanese larch, which grows naturally in a small mountainous area of Japan.

The Life on the Farm exhibition shows, among other things, what it was like to work the land without access to a horse. There are items such as hand tools, the crofter's clothes and a genuine old cow shed. The History of the Forest is about forest research and the nursery that operated next door from 1944 to 1976.

And then a tip! In Sälgsjön at Kalvsnäs there is a shallow bathing area with clear fine water and a sandy bottom.
