Varied forest reserve with rich cryptogamic flora.

The forest consists of mosaic-like older coniferous forest with great variation. The area is hilly and there is a great variety of habitats, from barren rocky areas to swamp forests. In several places there are loamy areas with a stable and humid microclimate, which favors some demanding species. Rocky outcrops and higher areas are covered with pine forests, many of which are over 200 years old. In depressions and on slopes, spruce takes over, the quality is partly high and the oldest spruces are around 175 years old.

The nature reserve has no facilities for outdoor recreation, but the experience is at least partly a natural mixed coniferous forest and the species that occur.

Animals and plants

The forests are multi-layered and there is plenty of dead wood, although it varies within the area. In a small area, the spruce has been felled while older pine and aspen have been preserved. The reserve is of great importance for forest birds, such as the stonechat and capercaillie.

The cryptogamic flora is fairly rich in the area and among the red-listed species is the critically endangered grynlaven, which grows on older aspen and has a relatively strong presence in Dalsland and southwestern Värmland. The cranesbill and several other species in the area indicate a forest with long continuity and high natural values.
