Beskrivelse
Just south of Bolinderberget is Slammertorp, two small red cottages used by the Kallhäll Scout Corps. The oldest of the cottages dates from the 18th century, but the farm has existed since the 16th century. Life at Slammertorp was hard. The crofter had to farm his own land, and at the same time work on the Görvälns estate to which the croft belonged.
The fields at Slammertorp are divided into two large fields. They bear traces of the very old two-sowing system that was common right into the 19th century. One year, one field was cultivated while the other was left to rest, and the next year the opposite was done. These fields still gave poor harvests and therefore Slammertorp was often uninhabited.
Today we can enjoy a beautiful agricultural landscape. In the summers, sheep graze south of Slammertorp.
The important role of oak trees in nature
Large oaks grow in the forest edges along the fields. Old oaks are important for biodiversity. They can support hundreds of species of insects, lichens and fungi. While oaks can grow to a larger size than any other Swedish tree, they are very sensitive to competition. If the oaks are shaded by other trees, the branches die quickly and eventually the whole oak dies. The municipality therefore removes younger trees, so that the oaks can grow large.
