Beskrivelse

Möja forest spreads over a large part of the island. Here, nature has been allowed to live its own life, without any major human intervention. Much of the value of Möja's forest comes from the fact that its trees vary in age, from young seedlings to really old trees and plenty of dead trunks that are slowly breaking down. Typical of old-growth forests like this one are the long hanging lichens that clothe the trees. The hanging lichens grow best where the light comes down through the canopy and the air is clean and moist. The forest also contains bogs rich in natural values that are protected by the EU's Natura 2000 network. To experience the forest, you can easily follow one of the island's two nature trails. The northern nature trail, which runs across the island, starts at Ramsmora, passes Möja Björndalen nature reserve and ends at Hamn. The northern trail is about 4 km. The entire Ramsmora - Hamn - Berg - Ramsmora section is about 12 km. The southern nature trail is about 3 km and runs in an arc that starts and ends at the dance floor or ostrich farm in Löka. Möja is an island where fishing was a cash cow and if you make your way along the island you pass several charming old fishing villages. The best way to get around the island is by bike. Möja offers several hostels, restaurants, a shop and bicycle rental.
