Slottet, Naturreservat

The nature reserve Slottet is located on the southern slope of Hallandsåsen. Here is a small botanical gem, a calcareous marsh with orchids, hay flowers and scorpion moss. The meadow is mowed annually by the Bjäre Nature Conservation Association. The ground is wet and the flowers are sensitive to trampling. There was no parking when the reserve was established in 2026.

In the western part of the nature reserve, Vadbäcken meanders through the deciduous swamp forest and on the small gravel ridge in the pasture grow stately wide-crowned oaks that will develop into perpetual trees. On the other side of the small gravel road, in the eastern part of the reserve, you will find the flowery meadow surrounded by deciduous swamp forest. The meadow is a so-called rich marsh. Species that can cope with high calcium levels but with little need for nutrients thrive here. Here you will find beaked sedge, grass wool, marsh marigold and hay flower, but also rare mosses such as scorpion moss. With a bit of luck, you may also find the limpet and the small snail. Like the species, the environment is an unusual sight in today's landscape.

The area has a long history as a hay meadow, including the forest, which used to be much sparser. But meadow farming ceased in the early 1900s and was then replaced by grazing. In the 1950s, all grazing ceased and the area slowly began to grow again. In 1989, the Bjäre Nature Conservation Association began restoring the marsh, which is now mown annually.

Other remains from the people before us are stone fences and a ruin. The ruin is the remains of a flax sauna, also called linbasta or brytestuga in Skåne. Here they processed the flax that had been grown in the field. The flax fibers could then be spun and woven into clothes and other textiles.

The nature reserve Slottet is located near Förslöv and Grevie on Hallandsåsen. The road to the reserve is narrow, but a parking lot will be built in the northern part. The Bjäre Nature Conservation Association has built a footbridge that runs through the damp alder forest out to the marsh, which attracts visitors. Otherwise, the terrain is difficult as it is wet and damp. Remember not to block the way for local residents and to admire the trample-sensitive flowers in the marsh from a distance.
