Beskrivelse

Fredshög-Stavstensudde is a municipal and marine reserve off Skåre in Trelleborg municipality. There are bladderwrack forests and eelgrass beds that are important for marine life. Resting seals can sometimes be seen on rocks that rise above the water surface.

Marine nursery

Eelgrass beds and bladderwrack forests act as nurseries for growing fish and are therefore very important for marine life. They are also environments that can be worth a snorkel.

Fish, crustaceans and bristle worms

The area is characterized by a varied seabed, where pebble, sandy and limestone bottoms give rise to varied vegetation. A variety of fish species thrive in the reserve, including eel, cod, pollack and flounder, and sea trout. Smaller marine animals that live in the reserve include horseshoe crabs, seaweed marlins, shore crabs and sea bristle worms.

Seabirds and ducks

Many seabirds nest or forage in the reserve. On the small island of Solvik and a reef outside Skåre harbor, lots of ducks and waders rest. Mute swans, black-headed gulls, grey gulls and cormorants are some of the other bird species that thrive in the area.

Resting seals

Seals, mainly harbor seals, are also regularly found in the reserve when they lie on large rocks west of Skåre and outside Skåre harbor. They probably come from a main colony at Måkläppens naturreservat Link to another website. outside Falsterbo.

A thousand hectares of sea, two hectares of beach meadow

The Fredshög-Stavstensudde nature reserve covers just over a thousand hectares of sea area, but also includes two hectares of land. In the eastern part of the reserve, at Stavstensudde, the nature reserve boundary extends some way up on land and includes a managed beach meadow. This beach meadow was previously a football pitch. The area is home to clove and wild garlic.

Outdoor life

This reserve is mainly a marine area, but there are opportunities to walk along the water. The reserve is good if you are interested in looking for seals and seabirds. There is a lookout point just west of Skåre. Remember to take your rubbish home. Parking is available in and around Skåre. The nearest bus stop is Maglarp a few kilometers north.
