Beskrivelse

In Billingemölla there is a rest area with a fireplace, nicely located next to Rönne å. It is for both those who come on foot and those in canoes. Next to the old ruins of the water mill, you can enjoy the silence and stillness of the sparsely visited area. The duck, the titmouse and the nightingale thrive in the damp forest environments.

Forest that develops freely

In the nature reserve there are shore meadows but also forests that have been allowed to develop freely in recent decades. In the flooded parts along the river, mainly alder grows and in the drier parts hazel, oak and beech. The field layer in the woodland is generally quite sparse but contains species such as lily of the valley, meadow-grass and yellowhammer. Yellow sword lily grows closest to the river.

Bird life

Bird life is rich. Ducks, tits and nightingales thrive in the damp forest environments and along the river you may be lucky enough to see white-tailed eagles, common terns or even the colorful kingfisher. Several different woodpecker species, including the lesser spotted woodpecker, also occur in the reserve's wild forest.

Industrial historical remains

The first water mill was built in the area as early as 1848 and during the 1900s there was a wire drawing factory here. The factory was demolished in 1957, but the foundation walls, the bridge over the river and a path that was once used for transportation to and from the factory are still there. However, the foundation walls are in very poor condition today and there is a high risk of collapse. For this reason, it is not allowed to enter the walls.

Outdoor recreation

In Billingemölla there is a rest area with a fireplace, nicely located next to Rönne å. It is for both those who come on foot and those who come by canoe. Remember to bring charcoal if you are going to grill and thank you for taking your garbage home. At the old mill, canoeists must go ashore and lift the canoe to move on. Be careful at the old walls at the mill, they are fragile. There is parking adjacent to the reserve and during the summer there is also a toilet available. The nearest bus stop is Billinge - Måns Andreas väg, about 2 km from the reserve.

In English

Welcome to Billingmölla Nature Reserve

Through the lush, verdant valley runs the river Rönne. Its banks offer good opportunities for spotting birds that thrive in streaming water. Grey wagtail often breeds near old mills or bridges, where it makes a nest among stones and hollows. With luck, you may catch a glimpse of the blue and emerald-green kingfisher. In winter, there is also a chance to see otters along the river.

The alder swamp forest along the river, as well as the broad-leaved deciduous woodlands of hazel, oak and ash on the slopes, are allowed to re-naturalize.

Dead elms still stand on the north-eastern slope, where it is best to keep to the path to avoid the risk of these trees falling.
