Svartdalen naturreservat

In Svartdalen Nature Reserve, you wander through a forest landscape with old spruce forest and swamp forest in damp hollows, as well as pine forest on drier rocks. The topography and soil moisture are very varied. There is a great diversity of plant and animal species associated with this type of old and varied forest. A number of red-listed species and signal species have been found. Some interesting plants you can see in the summertime are the missne and the orchids maidenhair fern and knotweed. Some of the trees are draped with hanging lichens, including the very rare ringed lichen. The bird fauna is rich, including capercaillie, wolverine, duck and black tit. In the north-western part of the area you will find the valley (Svartdalen) with lush and exciting vegetation and high humidity.

The nature reserve lacks a proper hiking trail, but there are two marked paths. One leads to the valley (Svartdalen) in the northwest. The other goes out into the eastern parts of the reserve. Otherwise, it is important to discover the forest according to your own ability. The area has several well-trodden paths you can follow. The forest is a popular destination for mushroom and berry picking in late summer and fall.
