Dackegrottan

If you are adventurous and not afraid of cave spiders, a visit to the forest area at the northern tip of Nedre Virkens is recommended. There are some rocky areas with deep crevices and small caves. Most of the caves are too small or narrow to be explored, but there is one exception, Dackegrottan.

Perhaps the cave was already known during the time of Gustav Vasa, when Dacke and his men were hunted around the country. Whether they were here or not remains to be seen, but if so, the cave must have been a good hiding place. If you crawl through the narrow passage at the foot of the mountain, a small hall opens up with room for several people. A couple of passages lead further in. If you follow the one that goes straight ahead, you come to a place with standing height. There is also a small cavity with a smooth ledge that is perfect for sitting on. Some cracks look out through the rock and let in a minimum of light.

The Dacke Cave is a cool place but should not be explored on your own. Always have someone with you if you visit. Neither the opening nor the crevices let in much light so a torch can come in handy.
