Beskrivelse
The mountain that gives its name to the nature reserve has steep, forested slopes and offers a fantastic view of the mountain landscape from its summit. In the lowlands to the north, a mosaic of forest and marsh spreads out, featuring tarns and the babbling stream Oademjåhkå. Here, you can experience a fire-influenced pine forest where fallen, gray trunks are a common sight.
The forest in Sievnavárre is dominated by pines, many of which are over 300 years old, and is largely untouched by humans. Fires have left traces in the form of old pines with scars, charred stumps, and fallen trunks. In this species-rich environment, discerning forest species like the blotch fungus and pine stock borer thrive, along with birds such as the three-toed woodpecker and capercaillie.
Sievnavárre's lichen-rich forests are also valuable reindeer grazing grounds for the Jåhkågasska reindeer herding community, so you may be lucky enough to spot reindeer during your visit!
