Vandringsstig Lomtjärn

At Lomtjärn, there is a really old pine forest with trees more than 200 years old. The great spotted woodpecker is one of the birds that need old forests to find food and live. Traces of past human activity are also visible in Lomtjärn. The open grasslands were previously cultivated and grazed by animals, and the foundations of old houses and stone fences show that people used to live and work here. Land uplift means that the land has risen almost 1 cm every year. Lomtjärn, which is about 1500 meters above sea level, was part of the sea around 500 AD, which then stretched all the way to here. At the same time, the highest point in the area near the water tower was a 15-meter-high cob. The nearby residential area is therefore called Ön.

Turn off Norra Ringen at Rågrindsvägen, signposted Lomtjärn. Parking is available at the entrance.
