Gárgguovárdduo Nature Reserve offers a unique experience with its ancient, primeval spruce forest that has grown without human influence. Here, you will find slow-growing, gnarled spruces, as well as both standing and fallen dead trees, which serve as habitats for rare fungi and lichens. Welcome to a forest where the spruce tick, old spruce cup, and garn lichen thrive!
From the gnarled subalpine forest at the mountain's peak to the lush swamp forest by the Mieltek Stream, the reserve presents a fascinating variety of landscapes. The spruce forest on the eastern slope is more productive and features birch, aspen, and willow. The Mieltek Stream creates habitats for the rare coral root orchid and wading birds like the green shank.
Despite the impact of previous logging, there is an abundance of dead wood, where fungi such as the boundary stick and fragrant skin thrive. Signs of woodpeckers like the black woodpecker and the three-toed woodpecker can also be seen in the area.

The nature reserve is located about 10 km northwest of Slagnäs in the southern part of Arjeplog municipality, just under 3 km north of the county border with Västerbotten. From Slagnäs, Gárgguovárdduo can be reached by following road 609 in a northwest direction, then turning west towards Nyliden on road 610. From Nyliden, continue west on a private road and shortly thereafter turn north onto a forest road. After about 4 km, you can reach the western parts of the reserve by walking from the road that passes approximately 130 m west of the reserve boundary.
From Nyliden, you can also follow a forest road north that ends just over 1 km south of the reserve boundary. From there, you can walk along a path that leads into the central part of the reserve.
