Spegelbollen

The artist group Inges Idee talks about Spegelbollen - "In the middle of the lake you see a glittering round sculpture floating on the surface of the water. The ball is reminiscent of a disco ball that seems to have landed on the water. The wind and water will set the sculpture in a slow but sure motion, causing it to reflect a permanently shifting spectrum of color and light. The sculpture acts as a link between the sky and the water and can be experienced as an artificial celestial body floating on the lake.

Usually a mirror ball is placed indoors, hanging from the ceiling where it spins calmly, creating complex patterns of light on the walls. Here, the mirror ball is placed in the middle of the lake in an unexpected setting, and feels more like a crashed moon than a party tool.

Instead of reflecting the light of a spotlight, it connects its own surroundings on the mirror surface - the sky, the water, the beach and the city become a living part of the artwork. Växjö itself is the main attraction of its own giant mirror ball - it becomes a visual feast under the open sky. The round and glittering sculpture creates an almost spiritual center of gravity on the lake, capturing Växjö's ever-changing panorama. At night, the ball might be illuminated to give it a different character than during the day."
