Old-growth forests with plenty of aspen - that's exactly what many plants and animals want. Some are difficult to spot, such as mosses, lichens and wood-boring insects. Stone crows, lesser spotted woodpeckers and green woodpeckers are easier to spot, although this too requires a little patience and luck!
Old aspen forest
Forests with plenty of old and dead aspens have become increasingly rare. This has affected many animals and plants associated with aspen-rich environments. For these species, nature reserves like Vackerslät are particularly valuable. The nature reserve's aspen-rich forest is home to, among other things, the rare butterflies giant sponge moth and Russian hightail. The Bäckebo-Alsterbot region, where Vackerslät is located, is the only area in the country where the Russian hightail lives.
Magnificent beetle
The green aspen beetle is another rarity in the nature reserve. The beautiful beetle lives as a larva in dead aspens for two years, before pupating in May. Shortly afterwards, the adult beetle hatches and only lives for a short time.
Perfect for woodpeckers
Woodpeckers such as the green wren, the common chough and the lesser spotted woodpecker thrive in Vackerslät's aspen forests. Inside the old aspens, the birds find beetle larvae and other food. The green wren also has ants on its menu, so if you see an anthill that someone has cleared, it may have been visited by the green-clad woodpecker. The soft wood of aspens is also suitable for hacking out nest holes. When the nests are abandoned, other birds move in, such as wood pigeons, starlings, nuthatches, redstarts and black-and-white flycatchers.

The center of the area is located about 10 km north-northwest of Bäckebo church.
Forskrifter
In the nature reserve you are not allowed:
- Drive any vehicle off designated roads or paths.
- Set up a motorhome, caravan or similar.
- Camp for more than one day in the same place.
- Make a fire anywhere other than in specially designated places.
- Deliberately disturbing wildlife.
- Bringing a dog or other animal that is not on a leash.
- Put up a board, sign, poster or similar device or make inscriptions.
- Digging or pulling up plants or plant parts by the roots.
- Picking or damaging mosses, lichens or wood fungi.
- Damage or remove trees, stumps, bark, branches, shrubs or brush that are growing or dead.
- Remove pieces of bedrock.
If you have permission from the County Administrative Board, you may:
- Use the area for competitions or exercises.
After consultation with the County Administrative Board, you may:
- Carry out commercial activities.
- Collect insects.
- Conduct surveys or research.
Full regulations
C. Regulations according to Chapter 7, Section 30 of the Environmental Code on the right to travel and stay in the reserve and on order in general within the reserve.
It is forbidden to enter the reserve:
- drive any kind of vehicle except on the existing road.
- Set up a caravan, motorhome or similar.
- Camping for more than a maximum of one day in the same place other than in a specially designated place.
- Make a fire other than in a specially designated place.
- Disturbing wildlife.
- Bring an unleashed dog or other loose pet.
- Put up a board, sign, poster, poster or similar device or make an inscription.
- Digging or pulling up plants or parts of plants by the roots or picking mosses, lichens or wood fungi.
- Damage or remove growing or dead trees, stumps, bark, branches, bushes or brush.
- Remove pieces from the bedrock.
- Without the permission of the county administrative board, use the area for competition or training purposes.
- Without consulting the county administrative board, lease or use the area for commercial use of the right of public access.
- Without consultation with the county administrative board, carry out collection, investigation or research.
The regulations under C1 do not apply in connection with agriculture, domestic felling or hunting for the transportation of shot big game. The regulations under C5 and C6 do not apply in connection with hunting.
The provisions of A-C shall not prevent the manager from carrying out the measures necessary for the management of the reserve.
The County Administrative Board would like to point out that laws, ordinances and regulations other than the reserve regulations also apply to the area.

Fint skog med mycket asp som man verkligen får vara ifred i, dels för att alla vägar(vad jag kunde se)i anslutning till reservatet var bommande. Inga märkta stigar och relativt lättgått.
