Mittlandsleden delsträcka: Odens flisor - Rönnerum - Ismanstorpborg

You are now in the middle of Mittlandet, on a trail that takes you through deciduous forest, pastures, wetlands and ancient remains. From Ismanstorp Castle you can choose between the northern or southern trail. The southern trail goes first to Rönnerum's ancient village and then up towards Odens flisor. At a crossroads, you can choose to go all the way to Odens flisor, or to turn south and go back to Ismanstorp Castle. Bear in mind that the stretch at Ismanstorp borg can be wet in the spring.

Avenboksskogen is Sweden's largest contiguous hornbeam forest. The forest consists almost entirely of hornbeam in places, but it is usually mixed with, for example, alder, ash and oak. Flowers such as wood anemone, wood anemone, wood violet, wood violet and lily of the valley grow on the ground, which especially in the spring gives a fantastic richness of flowers.

Rönnerum's ancient village is one of Öland's best preserved Iron Age villages. 10 different house foundations, surrounded by stone fence remains, can be found in an area of about 1.2 hectares. In the western part of the area there is a burial ground of about 100 graves, which was probably the ancient Rönnerum cemetery.

Ismantorp's castle is one of Öland's largest ancient castles, with a diameter of 127 m and a height of 2.5 m. The ring wall is built in shell wall technique with nine gates. In the castle there are 88 house foundations, built radially from the wall. The foundations of the houses are still clearly visible, but it is unlikely that people lived here for any length of time. This is thought to be the case as only a few finds have been made, including a suit buckle and arrowhead (dated between 200-600 AD).
