A rifle forge was something that a regiment could not be without. No one knows where the first forge was located, but in 1874, 100 older bayonet fencing rifles were sold at auction at the rifle forge.

The present rifle forge was completed in 1888 and the building also housed the blacksmith's residence.

After almost 150 years of stagnation in weapon technology, the percussion cap was invented in the early 19th century, and with it the percussion lock. The army's first percussion cap rifle arrived in 1840. Until then, soldiers had to stick to the old flintlock rifle. A type that clicked every third shot and was almost impossible to use in rainy weather.

In the latter half of the 19th century, a variety of breech-loading systems were designed, including the Remington model with its bayonet, introduced in 1867.

In 1896, a new more efficient weapon came into use, the Swedish army adopted the Mauser repeating rifle.
