Beskrivelse

Smörkullen is a mountain with alternating coniferous and deciduous forest. A path goes steeply up to the top of the mountain where you get a magnificent view of the Halland coastal strip south of Falkenberg.

Smörkullen was previously part of a chain of spring case mountains along the coast. The fires served as a signaling system that could quickly warn an entire village of danger. In the 19th century, a gold bowl and a bronze sword were found at Smörkullen. A large amount of flint has also been found, which probably originates from a settlement. The finds date from the Bronze Age and indicate that the hill was a place of worship and sacrifice during this period. Smörkullen is the county's oldest reserve and was established in 1926.

Path and view

A path takes you from the parking lot to the view and then further on the mountain. There are no trail markings but it is usually clear where to go. It is a fairly steep climb up to the view and if it has rained a lot, the surface can be slippery and a little difficult. From Smörkullen you have a nice view of the coast and the sea. The sea and the Grimsholmen nature reserve are just over a kilometer away.

Mythical hill

The hill also has bowl pits, a type of petroglyph, in boulders and rocks. The bowl pits have given the mountain its name, as it was previously believed that people sacrificed fat in the bowls. It was also believed that trolls lived on Smörkullen. According to one legend, the Veka farm offered a sausage to the trolls every Christmas, and in return they borrowed the trolls' copper cauldron.

Forest with vines

The summit of Smörkullen is 52 meters above sea level and is covered with alternating coniferous and deciduous forest. The fragrant wild honeysuckle grows on the east-facing slope, winding its way up the tree trunks like vines.

Perfekt eftermiddagsutflykt! Gick enkelt upp med hund och barn i bärstol. Kuperat på vissa ställen men inga problem om man tar det varsamt. Bör gissningsvis undvikas vid regn för då riskerar det nog bli halt.
