Simlången Runt

The eastern side of the trail runs through the nature reserves Bröda and Veka in partly hilly terrain with beautiful beech forests and white sea holly in the spring. In the far north, the trail rounds Mahults Herrgård, which in Fredrik Ström's book Folket i Simlångsdalen is called Marsjö Gård. Where the trail turns onto the old embankment for the Bolmen Railway is an old red-painted mill that belonged to Mahults Herrgård. There is a road down to Nybyggets kvarn from the embankment. The entire western side of the trail runs on the old embankment. At the far south is the old bridge called Hjärtevadsbro and just before the bridge a hill called Drömkullen.

How did Hjärtevadsbron and Simlången get their name?

"A long time ago, Knight Wolf lived at Mahult Manor. He had only one child, a girl, and she was the friendliest woman in the area. So you can understand that many knights competed for her hand. But none of them gave her their heart except a fisherman's boy by the lake. When Knight Wolf heard this, he was very angry, and the daughter wept and mourned until her father gave in. The fisherman's son and the noblest of the knights had to compete for her.

The fisherman's son had to swim from the bridge at the knight's farm to the Hill of Dreams at the other end of the lake. The knight would ride to the same place along the shore. The first of the competitors to reach the top of the Hill of Dreams was the winner. The fisherman's son came first, but when he had to get out of the water and reach the top quickly, his heart stopped.
