Guide till naturreservat i Hallands län
Lake Fegen is considered one of southern Sweden's most protected lakes and is one of the larger lakes in southwestern Sweden. Fegen is located in three counties and three different municipalities.
The nature reserve covers both Lake Fegen and the surrounding forests. Coniferous forest surrounds the lake, but in some places the landscape opens up around farms and pastures, and it is also here that there are fine deciduous forest stands with beech and other deciduous trees. Fegen and its neighboring lakes such as Spaden, Svansjön and Kalvsjön have plenty of small sheltered bays, protruding headlands and some 70 islands and skerries, making them popular canoeing waters. There is also a system of prepared campsites where you can spend the night.
The municipalities cooperate on tourist information in the area.
The lake is nutrient-poor and has a maximum depth of 38 meters. Liming is carried out annually to prevent the lake from becoming acidified. Fegen is drained via Svansjöarna to Kalvsjön and then further down via Lillån to Ätran.
The lake is home to the famous spring-spawning vendace, which is the only species found here in Sweden. In addition to this, there are 16 other fish species in the lake, namely pike, perch, pikeperch, zander, mountain salmon, large whitefish, vendace, roach, cormorant, bream, bream, rudd, gudgeon, tench, burbot and eel. The bird life is rich and both osprey and common loon nest here.
