Ollajvs, Naturreservat

Dense, moss-rich, moist coniferous forest and a winding stream with sea trout meet you in Ollajvs nature reserve, which consists of a forest area of just over 115 hectares near Ljugarn.

In Ollajvs, the forest is wetter than in many other places, and large parts of the forest land can be characterized as swamp forest. Spruce is the dominant tree species, and many of the trees are old and coarse. Several of the trees grow on clearly developed plinths. The area has plenty of dead wood in the form of dry trees, high stumps and spruce logs in damp environments.

There is plenty of moss growing on the ground throughout the reserve, mainly common species such as broom moss, wreath moss, house moss and wall moss, but if you are lucky you may also see the much rarer species green shield moss. The trunks of the older spruces are covered with old spruce lichen, while cat's foot lichen and barnacle lichen grow more sparsely.

The Svajdeån river and a couple of smaller tributaries flow through the area. In late fall, you can see large sea trout here that have sought out the river to spawn.
