Hans Lidman river - Svartån

"Hans has described the river in many texts with beautiful and loving sentences. He even gave it a name of its own, a name he let the river be enchanted under, when the books in a variety of languages spread around the world. Svartån, as he named his river, is one of our country's most famous fishing waters and for many fly fishers it is the ultimate classic. When rafting in the river was made more efficient, it was done with dynamite and caterpillars, which was devastating for the river's fish, which were also left without water when the power company stopped the water with a dam in the river's source lake Mållången.

But almost 60 years later, in September 2001, the announcement came that many had been fighting for years and even more had been dreaming of for decades. The environmental court ruled that at least one cubic meter of water per second must be released from Mållången during May to September and half a cubic meter the rest of the year. The court also ordered the power company to build a fishway past the devastating dam. This opened up many opportunities to realize dreams and to look to the future of the river.

Since 2003, Alfta FVOF has entrusted us at Woxnadalens Flugfiske with the management of the upper stretch of the river. This part of the river is now a pure fly fishing stretch where strict rules are set for the fisherman in favor of the fish. During the summer of 2005, habitat measures were carried out with excavators, in as natural a way as possible, in an attempt to recreate the river that was blown up during the rafting. With these works and many more small and big days' work, the opportunity to catch a magnificent trout in Hans Lidman's enchanted river will once again be possible."
