Historisk sevärdhet i Skog med spännande historia om upptäckten av fornminnet "Skogsbonaden"
Kyrkan byggdes 1320–1324 och invigdes av uppsalabiskopen Olov Björnsson. Under 1500-talet steg vattnet i Bergviken vilket gjorde kyrkogården obrukbar. Den 18 februari 1611 klagade prosten i Alfta till biskopen i Uppsala på byggnaden och önskade en ny. Detta ledde till att en ny träkyrka uppfördes och denna ersattes 1805 av den nuvarande Skogs kyrka. År 1912 upptäcktes det textila fornminnet Skogbonaden i av den nya kyrkans bodar. Bonaden ansågs då vara ett av Sveriges mest intressanta fornminne över äldre svensk medeltid. Upptäckten bidrog till att väcka intresset för den gamla kyrkan, som då hade förfallit till en ruin. Kyrkmuren restaurerades och stigluckan återuppbyggdes.

In 1912, the textile ancient monument Skogbonaden was discovered in one of the sheds of the new church. The bonade was then considered to be one of Sweden's most interesting ancient monuments from the early Swedish Middle Ages. The discovery helped to arouse interest in the old church, which by then had fallen into ruin. Archaeological excavations in and around the ruin, mainly carried out in the 1920s and 1930s, have revealed coins minted by Albrecht of Mecklenburg. Two tombstones were found at the entrance, one bearing the inscription 'INGRID OLOF D. ANNO 1566 17 OCT' and the other 'OLAVUS ANDREAE ANNO DOMINI 1569'. The latter had been vicar of the parish since 1530 and was the first priest in Hälsingland to marry after the Reformation.A gravestone with a prayer in Latin, the name Nicolaus Abrahami and the year 1590 was found by the chancel, and under the stone was the skeleton of a seven-year-old boy. He was probably the son of the vicar Abraham Olai (d. 1622) and grandson of Olaus Andreae.
