Beskrivelse
Sméleden is a 42 km long hiking trail that starts in Björsjö and stretches northeast through the municipality to Jätturn and Lake Tunsan. The trail passes Morgårdshammar and is suitable for dividing up into sections/stages and there are good resting opportunities along the trail.
Sméleden starts in connection with the Malingsbo-Kloten round, in the center of Björsjö and passes the village up to the bakery. After a short hike, you reach Dammsjön with a nice swimming area and resting facilities.
Just after Dammsjön, the trail passes the county road and turns off to the left over the forests and a beautiful hike towards Göberget. At Göberget you can see an old smithy from 1884 and have a nice view of Morgårdshammar and Smedjebacken.
After Göberget, the trail continues down towards Morgårdshammar and passes Rävbergsbron, RV 66, and on towards Munkbo. You walk along the Nybergsbanan (the old ore railway to Kolviken) past Näs farm to Enfastbo. Here you can make a detour of 1.5 km to Flogberget's visitor mine, which is a popular destination.
The trail then continues along Plogsbovägen (one of the oldest roads in the municipality) to Silfhyttan and Väster Silfbergs mines, a 4 km long ore trail that starts at Stollberg's huge open and deep mine hole. Here the hike continues on historic ground past the Dammberg mine and the Lustigkulla mine to Schisshyttan. In Schisshyttan there is the fine manor house and a connecting hiking trail, Schisshytteleden.
The trail then continues along Kungsvägen via Jätturn nature reserve. At Jätturn there is a charcoal hut to spend the night in and you can take a boat (in summer) across the south side of the lake and visit a cave formed by weathering in the limestone. There are carvings on the walls of the cave, the oldest of which dates from the 17th century. There are remains of settlements in the area dating as far back as the mid-17th century.
After Jätturn Nature Reserve, the trail leaves Smedjebacken municipality at Lake Tunsan and Stora Bråfall in Säters municipality.
If you want to walk the other way around Lake Tunsan and Jätturn to Björsjö, it is of course possible!
