Slogmyrloken, Naturreservat

Slogmyrloken's nature reserve between Falun and Bjursås consists of swamp forests and marshlands with the two marsh lakes Slogmyrloken and Ståbiloken in the middle. The reserve was formed primarily to protect the frog species larger water salamanders.

Larger salamanders are a 14-16 cm long amphibian. The warty skin is black to dark brown and the belly is orange-yellow with black spots. The salamander lives most of the year on land, in forest and damp meadow environment in the block terrain, about 10-100 meters from the ponds. During the play phase, the males develop a characteristic back comb and a silver-colored stripe along the side. The salamander plays in spring and early summer in shallow waters and lakes. The female lays an egg at a time as she inserts leaves from various underwater vegetation. The species is less common and protected. Neither eggs, fry nor fully-grown animals may be caught, killed, injured or moved.

The nature reserve is crossed by a smaller road in the west-eastern direction, which is also marked as a cycle path. The road has been around since at least the 17th century and is called Bjúrsvägen. The area lacks hiking trails but here and there are smaller paths brimmed by animals and people. At Slogmyrloken there are two picnic areas where you can fire.

Two hiking trails will be built in the nature reserve and two resting places will be arranged at Slogmyrloken.
