Myrans natur- och strövområde

Myran's nature and hiking area is a unique landscape in the center of Falun. Here you will find water in a wetland and a babbling brook, open fields with flowers, a rich bird life, deciduous forests and pine forests. Throughout the area there are several wide and flat paths, two barbecue areas and several rest areas from which you can experience and look out over the varied landscape.

On the signs around the area you can read about the area's wildlife today and about its history - which has shaped the place for centuries. The marsh has been a wetland for a very long time, perhaps since the ice sheet retreated. But several hundred years ago, as the population of Falun increased, the need for agricultural land became great and the area was drained to better suit human needs. At the beginning of the 20th century, conditions changed again and the then flat and relatively dry area became an important training area for the military. Today, a wetland has been recreated. The wetland fulfills many functions - it prevents flooding, purifies water and is a perfect habitat for many plants and animals. And it's exciting for visitors to be able to look out over the teeming plant and animal life.
