Källslätten

Källslätten is an old mountain manor dating back to at least the 16th century. The poor air in Falun meant that many mountain men searched outside the city. Already when Linnaeus traveled beneath the mountain in 1734, Källslätten was so remarkable that he particularly noted its "extraordinary prospectus". Today, the visitor meets open, open fields, cultivation trout, fence farms, birch hills and hay meadows. Below the foundation of the old residential building lies the apple garden and the well in the shadow of a giant lone. There is also a basement and some barns, remnants of the former farm buildings.

Agriculture continued at Källslätten until 1954. In the 1960s the whole area was planted again with spruce. The field biologists, however, agreed with the landowner that they had to clear the Christmas tree and start claiming the lands again. Otherwise everything would have disappeared today.

Since grazing and mowing resumed in the 1960s, the area's botanical values ​​have been strengthened. Now one can find plants such as field genius, lock board, trench grass, bladder eye etc. which are dependent species that can be found in the old mowing meadows. There are also old medicinal and cultural plants such as master root, comfrey and nettle nests in the area.

The source plain lies like an open oasis in the surrounding forest landscape. Here you can experience an older cultural landscape that it may have looked like in the 17th century. The area is managed by Källslättenföreningen.
