Gyllbergen

Gyllbergen is Borlänge's largest nature reserve. With its beautiful nature and snow-sure location, close to 500 meters above sea level, the reserve attracts many cross-country skiers. Here is the place where you will find silence and, if you are lucky, loose tracks in the snow.

At Gylle fäbod there are pine trees that are 250 years old. Previously, there was coarse timber forest right up to the highest heights of Gyllberget, but in the mid-19th century the area was cleared and the altitude of almost 500 meters above sea level has made it difficult for new forest to grow up. Today, with its stunted birch trees, nature resembles low mountain terrain instead, to the delight of all skiers who are offered 70 km of groomed trails. A special attraction in the reserve is the Dragbergsgatan fault, west of Dragsjön.

Due to the high altitude and the thin layer of soil, the flora is poor, but tolta and chamomile are two slightly rarer vascular plants. Cranes, green bears, golden eagles and hawk owls have been observed. The presence of lynx, bear, wolf and wolverine makes the area the southernmost with all the large predators. At Gylle fäbod, Prästbodarna, Dragberget and at Lake Gomen there are rest huts that are open all year round. There are also windbreaks in various places in the area. The reserve is managed by the County Administrative Board
