Beskrivelse
The Carls stoll mine goes straight into the rock under Garpenberg church and is open to visitors. Mining has been going on in the mine since at least the mid-18th century, probably even earlier. The shaft that goes down into the mine vertically is called Herman's shaft and is said to have been opened in 1750 to increase ventilation. The last mention of mining in the village was in 1786, the same year that the present church building was completed after the older wooden church from 1610 burned down.
Copper and lime were mined in the mine using the blasting method, which, unlike blasting, produced a rounded shape and fewer cracks. The locus is about 50 meters long and is said to extend to the "corner of the sacristy".
