Banvallen i Garpenberg

The embankment between Garpenberg and the village of Herrgården is a trail that is suitable for hiking, mountain biking or horseback riding. It is 5 km one way and largely follows the old embankment after the Gruvgården-Fors railway, which was in operation from 1908 to 1966. Above all, the railroad transported ore from the many mines in the area.

In Herrgården, it is possible to choose an alternative loop. One follows an old route, while the other takes the hiker across the Herrgården stream and closer to the Klondyke beach. The loops can also serve as a short cultural history walk for those starting from Herrgården.

The trail is marked with posts. Along the way there are several information boards that tell about the great importance of mining in the area. There is a rest area in Hässhyttan.

The trail partly follows the same route as the Pilgrim Trail, and connects to the Benså Trail and Dalkarlsvägen.
