Kyrkbytjärn runt

Kyrkbytjärn runt is a three kilometer long hiking trail in a beautiful environment. Here you walk through both dense deciduous forest and an open landscape with fields and pastures. For long stretches you also have a nice view of the tarn with its rich bird life. It is possible to take the stroller around and the height differences are small. Apart from a short stretch on asphalt south of the pond, the surface is path or gravel road.

You will find several nice resting places along the trail. The first, if you walk clockwise, is a shelter with a fireplace by the water on the western side of the pond. On the eastern side of the lake is a bird tower hidden in the reeds. Both up in the tower and below there are bench tables and coffee facilities. A little further along the path is also a rest area by an old barn.

Birds thrive in Kyrkbytjärn, but you can also look for fish here. Where Kyrkbytjärn flows into Vikasjön, Falu municipality has created a diversion so that fish can get up into the pond even when there is low water in Vikasjön. The best chance of seeing fish is on fine spring evenings when they swim up into Kyrkbytjärn to spawn and reproduce.

Don't miss the chance to make a short detour from the trail and go out on Gramsängs udde. It is a pebble ridge that is protected as a nature reserve. At the far end of the cape you have a nice view of the water.
