In Stenskogen in Höör, sandstone has been quarried for building stone and millstones since the 12th century. Building stone for the construction of Lund Cathedral was also quarried here during this time. Stone that was to be shaped into millstones was exposed and cut on site in Stenskogen. The stones were then transported by horse and cart to the ports of Höör and Skåne for export.
The many and often deep pits, the "graves", are traces of this long period of quarrying. One example is the "Bossegraven" about 200 meters from Höörs Mölla (see sign). The heyday was in the 18th-18th centuries and Linnaeus, during his journey to Skåne, mentions "the abundance of stone" that came from the Höör area.
In 1905, the railway "Brottets Bana" was built between Stanstorp quarry and Höör station to facilitate the transportation of building stone, pavement, stair stones and more. As early as 1910, when millstones began to be manufactured from artificial material, the railway and the quarry were closed down.
