A map from 1833 shows two market center buildings. A map drawn around 1870 shows the buildings as a market center and men's barracks, probably because the attics contained small, simple accommodation rooms rented by the regular officers.

The premises were owned by the officers and leased, usually to a lady. Around 1900, the manager's name was Lina Carolina Svensson-Segerhammar and she paid SEK 4,350 a year in rent.

In 1901, one of the buildings was converted into a reading and writing room for the men and equipped with new furniture.

Everyone did their best to lighten the mood during the conscript meetings. In the evenings, they used to listen to accordion music; there was always someone with an accordion. But they didn't just listen to the music, they also danced. When there were no girls, they danced with each other.

There was nothing wrong with the atmosphere. Perhaps because of the short period of service, but certainly also because of all the new comrades. There was always something happening that differed from the gray everyday life at home in the croft.
