Description

Church in neo-Gothic character with imprint from the history of the city

The name of the church comes from the patron saint of sailors and traders, St. Nicolaus. Lidköping's location on Lake Vänern and at a medieval trading post suggests that there was a church here very early on. The town's oldest known charter dates from 1446 and today's church has wall remains from this time. Some of these stones are visible at the entrance to St. Mary's Chapel, which was installed in the southern transept of the church during the last renovation in 1995.
