Description

Uttersberg is named after Utterclou, a 17th century mill owner who ran the ironworks.

At least a hundred years before Utterclou, the location with flowing water here began to be used for iron production. Eventually, a mill emerged, which various owners developed and modernized. After the First World War, there was a recession and the mill was closed down. At that time, Uttersberg was a modern ironworks. The manor house - in private ownership - and workers' housing now remain.

In 1866, the railroad reached Uttersberg and was later extended. As a result of a misunderstanding when the first locomotive was ordered, it was given a unique gauge. The last passenger train ran in 1952 and freight traffic ceased sixteen years later.

The former station site now houses a gallery and sculpture park.
