Description
Beautiful manor house environment with main building completed in 1779. The construction of Skinnskatteberg manor house was begun in the 1770s by the mill owner Wilhelm Hising. During the decades that the construction was planned and carried out, the end result had time to be influenced by different styles and movements in art and architecture. Hising's son was also called Wilhelm but was ennobled and was then given the name Hisinger. He completed and furnished the manor house and had an English park laid out. He was a prominent geologist and natural scientist and also had a laboratory built for himself. Until the turn of the century, the production of iron was the main industry in Skinnskatteberg. The manor house then belonged to the ironworks. The mill area with forges and workers' housing was behind the manor houses. There, water flowed between the lakes Övre and Nedre Vättern and supplied the mill with hydroelectric power. During the 20th century, Skinnskatteberg became a central location for the forestry industry and in 1944 the Forestry School moved into the manor. Visit the area on your own. The manor is centrally located near the church with a large park. On the other side of the stream is the local history museum with a workers' cottage.
