Welcome to St. Karin's herb garden 🌿

This herb garden is inspired by how plants were grown in monasteries in the Middle Ages - and right here in Arboga, that tradition has deep roots.

At the end of the 13th century, Franciscan monks came to Arboga. They settled here and brought with them both plants and knowledge of how to use them - for food, medicine and care. The monks grew herbs in their monastery gardens and spread their knowledge to people in the area.

Here in Sankta Karin's herb garden, we have collected many of the plants that the monks once used. You'll find everything from lavender and sage to wormwood and marigold - plants that both smell good and have exciting stories.

🪴 Tips Take your time to walk around, smell the plants and read the signs. You might find something you recognize - or something completely new!
