Description

Ekebymosse-loopen is a scenic and varied multi-trail that starts and ends at Sala Silvergruva. It is just long enough for a day trip and is suitable for both hikers and MTB cyclists who want to experience nature, culture and a bit of challenge. The trail starts through Aspentorp's nature reserve where you pass several dramatic mine holes. After crossing Fagerstavägen, you reach Pehrskoppargruva. Mining of chalcopyrite began here around 1800. During nine years of operation, 31 tons of copper were produced before the mine was closed.

At the copper mine you choose your direction - you can go either way. You won't miss anything as it's a circular loop. If you go left, you will reach the bog via Annedal's sports center. If you go right instead, you will pass Ökebron and Sandviken, an old agricultural landscape with crofts, farms and over 200-year-old pine trees. The highlight is the footbridge over Ekebymossen - Sala's longest at 179 meters, a perfect place for a coffee break. After all the paths you will meet a massive moving block. According to legend, such stones were thrown by giants in anger, but in reality it is the ice sheet that did the job.

Then you return via the copper mine towards Sala Silvergruva. Once there, rest for a while, enjoy the environment or plan your next trip. Perhaps investigate Knektleden - an MTB trail that takes you through the mining history, starting at Knektschaktet. Or head to Strå Flowtrail(link)a machine-built trail built with materials from the limestone mine near the Ekebymosse starting point.
