Description

It is likely that Malma church was built in its entirety sometime during the late 15th century, but its oldest inventory is a baptismal font in Gotland limestone that is believed to date from the 14th century.

The bell tower was built in 1641 and replaced the previous bell tower.

A major internal renewal took place in 1686-1687 when, among other things, the richly decorated pulpit and a brick floor were added.

The altarpiece was completed in 1730 by the sculptor Burchard Precht.

The next major renovation came in 1847-48. The facades were sprayed and repainted to the yellow color they had since then. The uneven brick floor was replaced with boards, and the pulpit was given its present location. A gallery, initially intended for the audience, was built, and in 1854 a gallery organ was completed by E A Setterquist.Around 1890 the shingle roof was replaced with folded sheet metal, which was painted twice with black oil paint.

Next to the church there is a tin box with pilgrim passports and pilgrim stamps for those walking the St Olav Rombo Way pilgrimage trail.
