Description

Between Skultuna and Tillberga is the small nature reserve Hemfallet. Here the terrain is varied and dramatic. Follow the small path that goes along and up and down over the area's rocks. Up on the peaks you have a nice view of the surrounding agricultural landscape. On one of the heights there are traces of what was probably an ancient fortress or guard post long ago. To reach it, you need to get off the path and climb up a steep slope.

The forest in the area is old. Up on the heights, where the mountain is exposed, the forest is open and sparse, while it grows denser in low-lying areas. Everywhere you can see dead trees in various stages of decomposition. Trees are important for many lichens, fungi, insects and birds. In spring, the ground is covered with bluebells. The area is rich in wildlife and if you are lucky you may see elk, roe deer or red deer during your visit.

Directions

Hemfallet is located north of Västerås. Exit the E18 in Västerås towards Sala on road 56. Drive for about 8 kilometers and then turn left towards Skultuna. Continue on this road for about 3 kilometers. Just before the road continues up a hill, there is a small parking lot on the left side. From the parking lot there is a marked path that after about 240 meters leads you to the nature reserve.

  • collecting insects or other invertebrates
  • erecting a board, sign, poster or permanently marking out tracks.
