Description

About two kilometers into the stage from Ullångers center is Gårdberget, or as it is called in the vernacular: "Äskjaberget". Here is a top cabin that is managed by Ullångers hembygdsförening. The mighty silhouette is visible from the community. The cabin is always open to hikers. There is a sofa bed and dry toilet but no drinking water.

500 meters from Gårdberget you can see Mäjasjöns fäbodar. Here there is another cabin and an unfurnished hostel available for overnight stays. This is not really a mountain farm, but rather a form of homestead. The dozens of buildings here are collected from various parts of the area and reverently rebuilt on site. There is a road right to the front. Fresh water is available in summer, as are dry toilets.

Between Mäja and Docksta, the hiking trail follows the old coastal road. Karl XI traveled along this road in 1694, Carl Linnaeus during his journey to Lapland in 1732 and King Adolf Fredrik in 1752.

In Skoved there is a detour to the top of Fäberget. The approximately 1.5 kilometers up to the top is recommended. The reward for the effort is a magnificent view from 200 meters above Ullångersfjärden. Shelter with fireplace. Can be used by 2-3 people for a simple overnight stay. No drinking water but it is possible to camp.

In Skoved there is also Docksta Hostel & Camping in Skoved, which is a three-star campsite and hostel with a wide range of services. There is a service shop, café, swimming pool and the dance club Kustladan. Service building with kitchen unit, meeting room, laundry room and sauna. Accommodation is available in the form of campsites, cottages and hostels.

A few kilometers after Skoved there is a short detour to a viewpoint with a beautiful view of Dockstafjärden. Further along the trail, just before Docksta village, you pass Vibyggerå old church. The whitewashed stone church dates from the Middle Ages and is well worth a visit. The church probably dates from the 14th century, but the interior was added in the 18th century.

Docksta offers most services you might need. Grocery store, hardware store, gas station, restaurants and accommodation. If you are looking for accommodation, there is Docksta Hotell, with nice rooms overlooking Dockstafjärden, and Villa Orrbacken, which is 500 meters from Docksta in the direction of Värns. Dockstabaren mainly has a restaurant but also rents out rooms and cottages. During the summer season, there are also boat connections with Ulvön via the High Coast boats.

Directly north of Docksta village, the trail goes towards Norrgällsta. There are several accommodation options here in the form of Jacobs Stugor and FriluftsByn, which in addition to accommodation offers a number of different events in the area. If you want to rest your legs from the hike up to the top of Skuleberget, you can instead choose to take the chairlift up to the top, the chairlift facility is only 500 meters from FriluftsByn. At the top, 295 meters above sea level, there is a restaurant, Toppstugan, where you can enjoy a simple lunch, preferably finished with the classic waffle. You eat it while having a fantastic view of the World Heritage Site. On the mountain there are traces of the highest coastline after the ice age and in fact Skuleberget today has the world's highest coastline at 286 meters above sea level.

Skuleberget has always fascinated people. Carl Linnaeus describes his experiences at Skuleberget during his Lapland journey in 1732. The mountain is one of the 12 official World Heritage sites and has been a nature reserve since 1969. Naturum Höga Kusten is located at the eastern foot of Skuleberget. Here you will find exhibitions about the World Heritage Site and knowledgeable staff who are happy to tell you all about the surrounding nature. Naturum also has a restaurant, Hillside Kitchen, and toilets. There is a shelter with a barbecue area by Vedån. In summer, there are also several concerts at the beautiful Skule Nature Stage, also located at the foot of the mountain.

If you are more active and adventurous, the Via Ferrata company is on site and offers one of Europe's largest Via Ferrata facilities. There are four climbing routes with different levels of difficulty. Allow around 3-4 hours for a safety briefing with an instructor, climbing, break at the top and hike down.
