Description

Around Holm there is an open agricultural landscape with a grand manor dating back to the 16th century and with a main building from the 18th century. Björkåfältet is Ångermanland's largest burial ground and Holm is the landscape's most monumental burial ground. There is a path in the area that connects the burial grounds with each other. Holm is also home to Norrland's only manor house, with opportunities to wander around the beautiful surroundings along the river or follow trails up to Holmsberget.

The grave field in Holm today consists of 15 visible graves. In the most remarkable grave, a woman was buried in a timbered chamber. She had a horse and rich gifts with her, including glass beads and Arabian silver coins. This is very rare in Sweden and was only erected over the most prominent members of society, who were usually men.

Björkå grave field is Ångermanland's largest grave field with 50 preserved mounds. The dating is like that of Holmgravfältet - the Migration Period to the Viking Age. One of the most interesting graves contains a skeleton grave without gifts. The deceased, a man in his 30s, is strangely lying on his stomach and missing his right hand and foot. Who was he? Was he being punished for something?
