Jovattnets dalgång

From the crossroads in Västansjö, the paved road runs along Nedre Jovattnet, Jovattsån and Övre Jovattnet to Joesjö, 22 km. Then the road continues up to the Norwegian border, 7 km. Through Norway to Hattfjelldal a total of 63 km from Västansjö. If you want to continue driving, you can take a long round trip via Trofors, E6 to Mo i Rana and E12 back to Tärnaby, 35 miles.

After Krutfjellsvegen there are several nice excursion destinations, including Atoklimpen, the sacred mountain of the Sami. Jofjället with all its trails and fishing lakes and nice mountain hikes on the Norwegian side. Once in Norway, you can go to Varntresk and Säterstad farm. An idyllic farm with goats and fish farming. They sell goat cheese and the specialty rakfisk. The road between Västansjö and Hattfjelldal is also called Krutfjellsvegen. Along the road there are a number of art objects.

REST AT THE FORK IN THE ROAD

The sculpture "Rast vid vägskälet" by the artist Annelise Josefsen is located at the crossroads in Västansjö. The theme of the artwork is communication across borders where the Sami, Swedish and Norwegian peoples meet.

THE REMINDER

The sculpture "Reminder" is the work of Sámi artist Ingunn Utsi, made from driftwood from Siberia. It often has cultural connotations and is associated with nature. The sculpture stands on the bare mountain after the road.

STONE POETRY ALONG THE KRUTFJELLSVÄGEN

Spanish artist Xavier de Torres' artwork can be found at seven rest stops along the road. He has chosen to carve ancient Sami symbols into the "stone furniture" that is available for rest and reflection for travelers.

ELVES AND STONES

Hreinn Fridfinnsson from Iceland has made the sculpture Elf Castle, which has references to myth, music and geometry, where elves meet trolls. The sculpture stands by the Sami school in the center of Hattfjelldal.
