Tjulträsk-Gáisátj-Vállienjuoná-Karsbäcken, Närleder Ammarnäs

The local trails start from Ammarnäs Nature Center, where there is more information, local trail maps to buy and experienced guides. This trail goes over Tjulträsk-Tjulträsk parking lot-Gaisatj-Vállienjuoná-Karsbäcken. You can choose to walk the Tjulåleden trail along the Tjulån river from Ammarnäs to the Tjulträsk parking lot or take the car directly to Tjulträsk P.

The Tjulåleden trail follows the Tjulån river upstream alternately through birch and coniferous forest. Along the trail there are three different shelters to rest in. After the bridge over Ruovdatjjuhka, you can make a detour to the Ruovdatj hay meadows. Here you will find signs telling you about the hay meadows. Just before the reserve boundary there is a wooden staircase down to a suspension bridge. Under the bridge, the Tjulån river flows through a rocky crevice reminiscent of Ronja the Robber's Daughter. There are also thousand-year-old trapping pits along the Tjulån.

From the Tjuträsk parking lot, the hike goes up through the mountain birch forest. When you reach the tree line after about 2 km, it is a good idea to take a break at the snow bank to drink water from the stream and fill your water bottle.

Don't be fooled by the crests on the way up, it is only when you see the summit ridge that you have reached the highest point of the day, the top of Gájsátje, 1008 m above sea level. From Gájsátje you can see peaks such as Stuor-Ajgart (1101 m) in the southwest, Suvlåjvvie (1352 m) and Stuvbiebákttie (1251 m) in the northwest and on a clear day you can see the highest peak of the Vindel Mountains, Norra Sytertoppen (1768 m) in the west.

Up on the bare mountain between Gájsátje and Karsbäcken there are extensive mountain views in all directions. It is an easy-to-walk mountain moor with good birdwatching. You can see heath pipits and peregrine falcons, among others. North of the trail there are several shallow small meltwater lakes.

A break at the suspension bridge over Karsbäcken offers refreshing mountain water and rushing rapids. Then follow the old mowing path down along Karsbäcken through a bird- and mushroom-rich mountain birch forest.

Difficulty: Medium difficulty. Quite a lot of ascent 456 altitude meters.
