Description

In the 1800s, the water in the spring was bad - but in 1847, pastry chef P.G. Lundgren took matters into his own hands. He had a water pipe built from hollowed-out logs from Kullkällan to the square. A technical marvel!

In 1881, Torgkällan got its current appearance and another marvel was installed, a modern steam boosting plant donated by engineer Harald Asplund at Kristinehamns Mekaniska Verkstad. Torgkällan was the townspeople's main water collection point until the early 1900s. Contemporaries are said to have described the marvel with the words "It has thirteen ejectors, which when you just press the button fill the vessel instantly."

It is believed that it is this very pump that Gustaf Fröding wrote about in his poem "Torgpumpen".
