Description
Skallberget, with its natural forest character and sometimes strong fire characteristics, together with the open bogs, is attractive to visitors seeking nature experiences in a beautiful environment. The presence of old pine trees with their characteristic features contributes to the natural forest feel.
Skallberget is a reserve dominated by fire-affected old-growth forest with a natural forest character. As a whole, the reserve is varied and consists mainly of old pine forest and mixed coniferous forest with stand ages often between 150 and 200 years.
There are also highly productive spruce forest areas and drier areas with elements of rocky ground. Within the reserve there are also large mire areas, areas of younger forest and three small lakes, which are partly within the reserve.
A large number of red-listed species and signal species have been found in the area, including the rare and endangered beetle raggbok. The reserve is located in an area specifically designated as one of Sweden's most important core areas for the species.
